In the video below, the Director of the Sandler Center for Research on Parasitic Diseases discusses why he believes that some intestinal parasites have medical advantages. He talks about, as an example, a case where somebody suffered from Ulcerative Colitis, and as a treatment option he intentionally ingested whipworm eggs to see if it would help. For the following three years, this same person was symptom free, all because of the Whipworm.

Now, it would be asinine to believe that Mr. McKerrow is saying that intestinal parasites are good, but he does bring a great example to the table as to why some people would benefit from intestinal worms. For the vast majority of the population, you would obviously not want to get a human parasite, and do everything you can to remove the parasite off before it negatively affects your health.
